So I know, I am a little dog, a very little dog. Chihuahua’s are not known for growing very big but there can be a variety in sizes. I weigh around 4 pounds, a few grams more or less can make a huge difference so my daddy keeps my weight under careful care. When I would become a bit heavier my joints will not enjoy that and Chihuahua’s are very likely to develop issues with their joints.
I always am questioned if I am a so-called Teacup Chihuahua. Now let me explain something here. A Teacup is not a dog breed, not a real one anyway. The name Teacup is being used to address a really, really small dog. As funny as it may sound, a Teacup little dog is not exactly a healthy dog, it means that people, breeders, had went through a lot of effort to create a dog so little. A dog that size has in most occasions all kinds of health issues, from having 24/7 headaches due to the too small a size of its head to organs failing and many other health problems. They do not live very long and their life is, allthough it may look so very funny and nicely on the pictures is filled with pain and sorrow. There is not an amount of good care by their owners ever enough to lift the health issues that is causing them pain.
A few countries have began to try to stop this legally and put an end to this Teacup Horror but ofcourse, many people do not care abut the process of breeding or the health of the dogs, they simply want a small tiny doggie that looks so cute so they will always find their way to these breeders or dogs. I believe it should come to a halt.
I myself am small but I was not intentionally meant to be this small. My parents are bigger and even my sisters and brothers are bigger, I am simply the smallest of the nest so I guess I just decided in an early stage to stop growing π My Daddy however has me under close wathc from the ‘Dogtor’ and she is also very confident there is nothing wrong with me and I am a healthy small dog, not a Teacup.
So if you ever feel like becoming a Chihuahua Mommy or Daddy, please pay attention to this and avoid the reall small ones, ok?
